Catamarans are in vogue due to their stability qualities combined with the ample interior space they provide, enhancing the lifestyle over their monohull counterparts. As expected, it garnered much attention when Sunreef launched the first unit of its ‘Eco’ series, the 80 Sunreef Power Eco.
Whenever you see “Eco” at the end of a Sunreef model, it means that the vessel operates with hybrid propulsion, that is, it uses two or more energy sources, electrical and solar, unlike the standard Sunreef models, which, despite having solar power, rely on gas-powered engines as the main energy source.
The Eco Yacht series sets new standards for eco-friendly cruising achieved through the use of lightweight materials, advanced electronics, and intelligent energy management that uses real-time data to make energy use more effective, and hybrid propulsion systems that use electric and solar energy to achieve the brand’s goals: to produce more efficient and sustainable ships.
The 80 Sunreef Power Eco is an ultra-modern ship designed for extended cruising on the high seas, combining comfort and exceptional seaworthiness.
It is ideal for tropical waters where the shallow draft and wide beam are perfect for exploring crystal clear and shallow waters, where you can anchor near an atoll without fear of running aground. Families generally love to travel and appreciate the natural landscape, so opting for an eco-friendly catamaran, suitable for long ocean voyages and optimized to help conserve the environment, will allow them to travel the world with peace of mind.
With solar cladding, the integrated composite panels are only 1 mm thick (one of the lightest systems in the world), harness solar light as an energy source, and extend on both sides of the hull and along the flat bimini top, covering a total of 2152 square feet of solar panels.
The 80 Sunreef Power Eco also boasts the largest battery bank in the industry for recreational yachts up to 80 feet and is 30% lighter than the average electric motor system used in the yacht industry. The 990 kWh battery system powers all the onboard amenities as well as the twin 360 kW engines; the batteries allow for navigation up to 300 nautical miles. Its range extender, charging system, and ability to transform any available port voltage enables the model to sail even further.
Electric propulsion allows for entirely silent navigation without fumes or vibrations, providing a serene experience at sea and connecting guests with nature.
Custom-made to accommodate eight guests, there are four cabins onboard, comprising one king-size bed cabin and three queen-size bed cabins. There is also space for a four-person crew.
The interiors are decorated with natural origin materials following a palette of neutral colors with modern and clear finishes that provide a cohesive appearance throughout the yacht. The non-toxic silicone-based bottom paints on the hull effectively protect against the weather.
The main salon boasts an impressive relaxation area and a bar, opening towards the aft cockpit and the forward terrace. The surrounding windows offer incredible uninterrupted views of the seascape.
The aft glass doors open to a spacious area, integrating the interior with the exterior, towards an outdoor dining table for eight people with 360-degree ocean views and well-protected. It also has a large sofa bed.
The most notable peripheral features for leisure include a jacuzzi on the deck, a barbecue, climate-controlled deck showers, and a spacious swim platform that also serves as a garage for a Williams Sportjet 520 auxiliary boat. There is also space to store water toys, including Seabobs, electric bikes, etc.
The catamaran displays eco-friendly features in every detail. A DC-powered air conditioning system, a water purification system, non-toxic bottom paint, and natural composite structures.
FERNANDO ALONSO

Why did you decide to build a fully electric yacht?
The world is moving in that direction. Every day, we become more aware and want more sustainability. We have seen significant changes in global mobility in recent years, and it makes sense to opt for an electric catamaran. This type of craft brings you closer to the seas. The world is becoming electric, and yachts should follow suit.
Why did you decide to build your yacht with Sunreef Yachts?
It was a straightforward choice. Sunreef Yachts is known for its quality and has earned a great reputation over the past two decades. I was keen to build a catamaran to enjoy more space and all the other advantages that multihulls bring. At the same time, my vision was to build a luxury vessel of the highest quality. Sunreef Yachts met all my requirements regarding space, catamaran experience, lifestyle, and luxury. It was a no-brainer for me.
What are the must-have features on your yacht?
The first would be a barbecue, which for me is essential. I enjoy long barbecue parties with friends and family, so this is a must. I would also like a good sound system since music is an important part of the lifestyle onboard. Finally, I will have some water toys on board so we can enjoy relaxing on the sun loungers and doing sports.
Where will you take your yacht?
I will be based in Monaco. I will sail the French Riviera, Corsica, and Sardinia. My cruising area will be the south of France and the Mediterranean.
What do you expect as a yacht owner?
It is my first yacht, so I have nothing specific in mind. I want the yacht always to be ready to set sail. Sometimes, I go out to sea spontaneously and want to ensure the yacht is reliable. I want a yacht that I can trust. I know that the technology of this electric yacht is complex, but I can also see Sunreef Yachts’s effort into it, so I am confident. I’m looking forward to spending time on board.
What is your vision of a perfect day at sea?
My perfect day at sea wouldn’t start too early. It would be a day off, starting with breakfast on board with friends and family. It would be followed by swimming and some water sports—after lunch, relaxation, a good conversation with friends, and enjoying the sun. Dinner would be a barbecue that we would prepare, cook, and enjoy together.
