This high-speed yacht can reach top speeds of 50 knots and cruising speeds of 40 knots, meaning it’s not just about looks and comfort but also performance and efficiency. However, customization is critical when it comes to building luxury yachts. The Italian shipyard OTAM Yachts takes customization to a whole new level by personalizing not just the visual style of its vessels but every detail of the construction process to meet the exact needs and desires of the owner.
“As with all OTAMs, the new OTAM 70HT was designed to exceed our owners’ expectations, who highly value total freedom of expression,” says Matteo Belardinelli, Sales and Communication Director. “All of them, without exception, seek something unique and exclusive and that leads us to always strive beyond our limits. We firmly believe that craftsmanship is the ultimate expression of luxury.”
The latest OTAM 70HT delivered is a faithful testament to this: at the specific request of the owner, it was able to further enhance fuel efficiency at cruising speeds over 40 knots, thanks also to the light but rigid construction in Aramat, Kevlar, and carbon fiber. The yacht’s owner has deep technical knowledge and loves to sail all year round and in all sea conditions. His choice was not random: he specifically turned to OTAM shipyard because he knew their approach and openness could meet his detailed list of technical and aesthetic requests.
Another special request was to move the generators to the stern: this involved a detailed study by the internal engineering team on weight distribution to ensure that handling and performance were not compromised but improved. The owner also requested a co-pilot station equipped with the same navigation and tracking instruments at the main helm.
Upon closer examination, there are very few similarities with its series siblings: in fact, the owner wanted the most extensive possible sliding hardtop roof to obtain natural ventilation both during anchorage and navigation, while all the marbles are selected and cut from the same block, so that the vein is consistent throughout the yacht, in line with the craftsmanship and traditions of the authentic Made in Italy, of which Otam is an ambassador in the world.
On the lower deck, there are three cabins, a galley, and crew accommodation (with independent access from the foredeck), while on the main deck, there is a dining area and a second galley.
Each OTAM yacht exemplifies individuality, with every detail tailored to the owner’s vision. Belardinelli sheds light on this process: “We meticulously plan the interior layout before laminating our hulls because it significantly affects weight distribution. With over 100 OTAM yacht units, none is like another, given the interior design and customization of each client’s lamination.” To bring these visions to life, the OTAM 70HT was designed by Giuseppe Bagnardi of the Italian design firm BG. Once the client’s interior desires were precise, OTAM customized the lamination and weight distribution to suit these design requirements.
OTAM’s commitment to customization goes beyond the yacht’s layout and extends to the materials in the construction process. Unlike many other yacht builders who rely solely on GRP, OTAM employs a mix of Aramat, Kevlar, and carbon fiber in the construction process. “Building a high-speed vessel with these materials means that the final product is robust, safe, and comfortable for everyone on board,” says Belardinelli. “Lightweight materials are unsuitable for a vessel capable of reaching these high speeds, as they lack the flexibility and strength necessary for quality and comfort.” The OTAM 70HT is constructed from a mix of Aramat and vinyl ester resin, enhanced with longitudinal carbon fiber reinforcements, which were customized to meet the owner’s interior requirements.
True Italian Craftsmanship
In OTAM, there are no compromises when it comes to craftsmanship. OTAM adopts a unique process in building yacht interiors. Instead of having interior structures built externally and assembled in the yacht, the interiors of the OTAM 70HT, like all OTAM yachts, are built on board and by hand. This meticulous process ensures maximum solidity and eliminates vibrations. Belardinelli emphasizes the commitment to excellence and states, “This is an example of true Italian craftsmanship where both style and precision are at the heart of its DNA.” Furthermore, every aspect of an OTAM yacht is designed to be durable. Most internal elements, like bulkheads and partitions, are welded from the keel to the deck using Kevlar fiber, resulting in an exceptionally robust and reliable vessel.
The OTAM 70HT is a brilliant example of power, luxury, and efficiency, with a fuel capacity of 5,500 liters and an average consumption of only 10 liters per mile, giving it a very generous range.
Quality over quantity is part of the brand’s spirit. OTAM’s commitment is always to deliver an exceptional product, ensuring that every yacht bearing the OTAM name is a true masterpiece of luxury, custom-built for each client.
