A Modern
Classic
Riviera revives the Downeaster tradition in two forms, a Sedan and a Daybridge, built around a hull engineered for Volvo Penta IPS and a level of bespoke detail reserved for owners who no longer cruise on compromise.
Some yachts chase the silhouette of the moment. The Belize 55 does the opposite, reaching back to the low-profile grace of a classic motor yacht and rebuilding it around contemporary propulsion, materials and systems.
Riviera has revealed a first look at the new Belize 55 Sedan and Daybridge ahead of their world premiere at the Newport International Boat Show, opening 17 September 2026. The pair extends a collection that began in 2011 with the Belize 54 Sedan, a line defined less by length than by attitude: curved sheer lines, restrained proportions and a refusal to grow taller for the sake of volume.
The reference is explicit. Riviera Australia's owner, Rodney Longhurst, describes Belize as a balance between the understated elegance of Maine's Downeaster boats and Australian practicality, a blend of tradition and modern bespoke luxury drawn with exotic timbers, handcrafted cabinetry and premium finishes. Each hull is highly individual, shaped to the experience and lifestyle of its owner.
Longhurst frames the buyer precisely. Belize owners, he notes, often arrive with years of cruising behind them, some from traditional motor yachts and others from sail, and reach a point where decisions are made without compromise. With only a limited number of Belize yachts built each year, ownership is defined by exclusivity rather than production volume.
The Belize 55, across both decks
A main deck that flows to the water
Much of the Belize 55's update is written into how it meets the sea. A generous, full-beam hydraulic swim platform lowers to become a private beach at anchor, opening effortless access for swimming, water sports and launching the tender. A dedicated watersports garage keeps equipment stowed and out of sight, while an integrated transom barbecue turns the stern into a working part of the entertaining plan rather than a passage to it.
Forward of that, the aft deck is conceived as a relaxed alfresco living zone that flows seamlessly into the saloon, effectively doubling the main-deck entertaining area. It is the Downeaster idea brought up to date: indoor and outdoor space treated as one continuous room, with the horizon left to do most of the decorating.
A second social space, raised to the view
On the Daybridge, the upper deck becomes the heart of the day. A large lounge and a wet bar gather guests around the helm, which on this version reads less as a working station than as the best seat aboard, set high enough to take in the full sweep of the anchorage. The previous Belize Daybridge models treated this deck as a casual open-air room, and the 55 keeps that instinct while sharpening the proportions.
The choice between Sedan and Daybridge is, in practice, a choice about altitude. One keeps the experience close to the water and the protected saloon; the other layers a panoramic deck on top. Both are built on the same hull, and both refuse to grow taller than the silhouette allows.

Understated luxury, handcrafted
Inside, the Belize 55 takes the semi-custom motor yacht to a new level, delivering a fresh sense of space and an atmosphere of understated luxury throughout. The main deck is organized for one-level living, the galley and dining area flowing into the saloon and out to the aft deck, so the social life of the yacht never has to climb a stair to find its next room.
The craftsmanship is where Belize makes its case quietly. Exotic timbers, handcrafted cabinetry and premium fabrics are specified to each owner's brief, the bespoke detail that Riviera treats as the point of the collection rather than an upgrade to it. Every hull is individual, shaped to the personal vision and experience of the owner who commissioned it.
Galley & dining
Master suiteA full-beam master, and room to stay a while
The accommodation deck comprises three beautifully appointed staterooms and two bathrooms, including a full-beam master suite with ensuite, generous storage and abundant natural light. Comfort, privacy and liveability are the priorities here, the qualities that decide whether a yacht is enjoyed for a weekend or lived aboard for a season.
It is a layout built around the way Belize owners actually cruise. The 55 is described as equally suited to extended passages and relaxed weekends, a flexibility that matters more to experienced owners than any single headline number. The yacht is sized to be handled easily and lived in fully.
A hull drawn around the propulsion
At the heart of the 55 is a hull engineered specifically for Volvo Penta IPS, a philosophy already proven in earlier Belize models. A fine entry slices cleanly through the water, while keel-assisted tracking and a pronounced bow chine deliver confident handling, strong stability and a dry, silky ride offshore. It is the part of the boat an owner feels before they notice anything else.
Twin Volvo Penta D11 IPS 950 engines provide effortless performance, impressive fuel efficiency and precise maneuvering, with up to three joystick control stations available for stress-free docking and close-quarters handling. The result is a yacht that an experienced owner can run shorthanded without surrendering the composure of a far larger vessel.

The Belize 55 reads as the evolution of a true classic, timeless in style and intelligent in design, handcrafted for owners who value authenticity and individuality over the silhouette of the moment. It arrives in Newport this September with little left to prove and a great deal still to specify, exactly as its owners would want it.
