The FB291, an 80 meter full custom megayacht that Benetti builds under the working name Project Iron Man, has reached the Livorno shipyard with its main structures complete. It now enters the outfitting phase, ahead of a launch scheduled for 2028.

The move itself is the news. Livorno is the Group's designated hub for large steel construction, and routing an 80 meter hull there is less a milestone than a statement of industrial order. The site built to carry the heaviest work now holds one of Benetti's most closely watched projects, and the outfitting phase is where a full custom build spends most of its calendar.

For anyone reading the yard rather than the yacht, the interesting variable is not the eighty meters. It is the word custom. FB291 is full custom, drawn around a single owner, in a market that has spent several seasons filling its 50 to 70 meter semi custom shelves. Benetti is signalling where it still expects margin, and prestige, to sit.

The client is the asset

Both exteriors and interiors come from Cassetta Yacht Designers, the studio's second full collaboration with this owner. By the designer's account the relationship runs to roughly five years, and the yacht replaces a previous Benetti already in the owner's hands.

That detail carries more weight than any single specification. Full custom at this scale is a relationship business before it is a manufacturing one. A returning owner who trades up inside the same yard is the clearest signal a builder can offer that its top segment is in good health.

What the release leaves out

The communication is exact about structure and quiet about numbers. There is no gross tonnage, no beam, no propulsion package, no owner named. For a full custom build still two years from the water, that reticence is ordinary, and it is also deliberate. The specification is the owner's to reveal, not the yard's.

What can be read is the shape. A plumb bow, six decks and a steel hull point to a high volume, long range platform conceived for extended family use rather than speed. Naval architecture stays in house. The rest waits for 2028, which is the honest answer a commercial director would give when the hull is complete but the yacht is not.
