Bering Yachts Unveils the 130, a 40 Meter Explorer With a Motoryacht's Lines, and a Category Name All Its Own

Bering Yachts has unveiled the Bering 130, a 40 meter yacht developed with Swiss design studio Valentin Design and positioned as the first model in a category the shipyard calls the Vector Yacht. The term is Bering's own: a hull built for range and self-sufficiency at sea, carrying a superstructure and interior with the curved, coherent lines more commonly seen on motoryachts.

For years, the segment has split fairly cleanly in two. Explorer yachts delivered tankage, structural strength and weeks of autonomy, usually through angular, utilitarian superstructures. Motoryachts refined circulation, living space and exterior form, often at the cost of real long range capability. Bering's own reputation sits on the explorer side of that line, built on steel hulls designed for capability first.

The 130 is the shipyard's attempt to move that reputation toward a smoother design language, without giving up the range and self-sufficiency it is known for. Calling the result a Vector Yacht is a marketing decision as much as a technical one. The term is Bering's own, not an established industry category, for an approach that blends expedition capability with motoryacht-style volumes. What is genuinely new here is the platform itself, not the ambition behind it.

A shipyard riding demand into new territory

The Bering 130 does not arrive on its own. It joins the shipyard's Superyacht Division alongside the Bering 165, which the yard describes as its most requested model of 2026. Adding a second flagship to that division while demand for the first is still climbing is as much a business decision as a design one.

Aboard, the emphasis is on continuity between decks, guest zones and crew areas rather than a single showpiece space. Owners can choose a dedicated owner's deck with a full-beam master suite, guest accommodation in varying sizes and locations, and outdoor areas built for both privacy and entertaining. Crew quarters stay separate and efficient, with cabins and storage sized for weeks of independent operation.

What the yard is actually selling

Strip away the Vector Yacht framing and the pitch is a familiar one in this segment: a steel hull built for genuine range and self-sufficiency, wrapped in a superstructure with cleaner, more contemporary lines than the angular forms usually associated with expedition yachts. Bering says the platform keeps the tender-carrying capacity and practical deck arrangements expedition use requires, without asking owners to accept a utilitarian exterior in exchange.

What comes next

The Bering 130 is available for order now, with extensive customization for individual cruising programs. Bering and Valentin Design will present the concept together at the Monaco Yacht Show.

Whether "Vector Yacht" becomes a category other yards adopt, or stays a name specific to this one model, will depend on what the 130 actually delivers once it is built, not on the term itself. For now, it is Bering's way of describing a shift its own design partner already named directly: less explorer DNA on the outside, without losing it underneath.
