Zeelander 8: the Fastest Ever Built Hits 40 Knots on Quad Volvo Penta IPS, World Premiere at the Monaco Yacht Show 2026

Four thousand horsepower, 65 dBA at full throttle and a main deck redrawn for a repeat owner who runs the yacht himself. The speed is the news. The brief behind it is the more interesting document.

Zeelander Yachts has delivered the fastest Zeelander 8 built to date, fitted with quad Volvo Penta IPS-1350 engines, 4,000 hp, and timed at 40 knots on sea trials. She leaves the family-owned yard in Groot-Ammers for her world premiere at the Monaco Yacht Show, September 23 to 26, 2026.

Forty knots is the line that travels, and it is a first for the model. Read the specification as a brief rather than as a scorecard, though, and a different document appears. The yacht was ordered by an owner who had already spent weeks at a time aboard a Zeelander 7, working and resting on board, operating it alone and without crew. Most of what is costly about the new boat exists to let him keep doing exactly that, with more room around him.

Speed is the headline. Silence is the product

At full throttle, interior levels hold at 65 dBA, which the yard places below the level of ordinary conversation and calls the quietest in the class. That figure matters more in daily use than the top end, because a yacht an owner drives himself is judged by how he feels at the end of a long leg, not by a number set once on a trial run. The rest of the package follows the same logic: IPS propulsion, joystick docking, gyro stabilization, low maintenance materials and systems specified for simplicity rather than for the spec sheet.

Range is quoted at 2,700 nautical miles at 7 knots and 630 nautical miles at a 32 knot cruise, which is the more realistic of the two for a hull built to cross open water rather than hop between anchorages. A Williams 435 jet tender sits in the side tender bay alongside Seabobs and flyboards, all stowed within the hull, with an electric scooter aboard. Additional berths let crew join when the trip calls for it, which is the quiet caveat in an owner-operated boat of this size.

"a yacht without crew is not a compromise. That is the point"

A main deck drawn from one owner's memory

Every Zeelander 8 leaves Groot-Ammers with a completely different main deck layout, and that is the part of the proposition doing the commercial work. On this unit the salon is built around a large dining table, a choice made by an owner who entertains at anchor. The galley is generous and positioned inside the gathering rather than behind it, with the yard's signature curved sliding window opening the space to the aft deck. Where a bar with stools would normally hold the aft corner, there is an oversized L-shaped seat, sheltered from the weather and from the rest of the deck. It was his favorite spot on the Zeelander 7. Here it anchors the whole aft arrangement.

The interior is finished in swamp oak, a timber recovered from riverbeds after decades submerged, minerals and tannins turning it nearly black through the section. It is the primary surface throughout, paired with exclusive leathers and Porsche Agate. The yard describes it as rare, costly and impossible to replicate, which is a fair summary of what it is buying: a serial model whose most visible material cannot be reordered to match.

What a repeat owner is worth to a small yard

Zeelander builds in very limited numbers at a family-owned shipyard in the Netherlands, and this delivery is the clearest available picture of how that model sustains itself. The buyer was not discovering the brand. He came from a Zeelander 7 and from weeks of living aboard it, then ordered the same idea one size up. For a builder at this volume, a returning client specifying his second boat from memory is a more durable asset than a trial run figure. The 40 knots will get the attention in Monaco. The layout is the part worth studying.
