The 66th Genoa International Boat Show Opens October 1 With Over 1,000 Boats, Bigger Yachts and a Free Blue Arena
The headline figure is not the thousand boats. It is 14.1 percent, the growth in average size of the largest units on display, and it is the clearest return yet on the show's move back to October.
The 66th Genoa International Boat Show runs from October 1 to 6, organized by Confindustria Nautica, with over 1,000 boats, 215 new products and 45 countries from five continents. The in-water layout has grown by 4 percent, and the boats filling it are measurably larger than last year.
The figure worth isolating is 14.1 percent: the increase in average size of the three largest units in each segment compared with 2025, set beside a 28 percent rise in the number of multihulls on display. No amount of promotion produces numbers like those on its own. They follow a calendar decision. Genoa has gone back to its traditional October dates, and the mayor of the city, Silvia Salis, put the reasoning on the record, calling the return a gamble that paid off because it takes the show out of the pressure created by the Monaco and Cannes shows. A shipyard that had to choose between September stands can bring a bigger boat to Genoa once it no longer has to choose.
The high end followed the calendar
Living Made in Italy makes its debut on Quay H, developed with the support of the Italian Trade Agency and built around yachts over 24 meters, with exhibition spaces, lounges and hospitality services and partners Venini, Riflessi and Leonardo. The organizers state it has drawn superyachts in the 35 to 50 meter range.
That is the practical evidence for the date change. A 40 meter on display in Genoa in October is a boat that in September would have been committed elsewhere. Occupancy of the Yachts and Superyachts marina is rising, which is the quiet metric that separates a show that is climbing from one that is holding.
The framing around it, pairing boatbuilding with other expressions of Made in Italy, is a positioning choice rather than a specification. The commercial fact underneath is simpler and more useful: the segment with the highest margins has decided to show up.
A free arena aimed at people who own nothing
The Blue Arena is new in 66 editions. Funded by Confindustria Nautica and the Italian Trade Agency, housed in the Palasport Pavilion and free to the public, it is organized into five areas: Start Boating, Start-ups and Innovation, Training and Maritime Professions, World Sailing and Military Institutions. Start Boating puts visitors in contact with engines of up to 25 hp and promotes the D1 boating license, available from the age of 16. The Italian Sailing Federation covers everything from dinghies to foiling, and the Italian Navy, the Coast Guard and the Guardia di Finanza bring simulations. Ticketing follows the same instinct, with a discounted Under-25 fare and a reduced price for over-35s on October 2.
Read as industrial strategy rather than as outreach, this is a demand-side bet. A show that spends an entire pavilion on people who do not own a boat is saying that its constraint is not how many hulls it can berth, but how many buyers exist at all. Every other figure in the announcement depends on that one holding up over a decade.
"The return to October is a gamble that has paid off"
Silvia Salis · Mayor of GenoaWhere the business is actually done
The trade program is where the week converts. The Italian Trade Agency has doubled its incoming commitment, taking foreign buyers from 70 to 180, among them purchasers, importers, distributors and dealers, with international operators and media arriving from 35 countries. TechTrade Days returns on October 1 and 2 for a second year, with over 400 specialized brands in accessories and components in a business to business format and more than 4,000 professionals invited, from shipyard purchasing managers to superyacht captains, yacht managers and refit operators. A new strand, the TECH SEMINARS, runs on the upper floor of the Blue Pavilion.
The rest of the week is institutional and cultural. The opening ceremony on October 1 on the Blue Pavilion Terrace includes a flag-raising by the Coast Guard, a sail-past by the navy ship Margottini and closing remarks from ministers Adolfo Urso and Matteo Salvini, followed by the issue of a commemorative stamp. FORUM26 runs across all six days under European Commission patronage, the market analysis Nautica in Cifre is presented on September 30, and the seventh Design Innovation Award announces its winners on October 2 under a jury chaired by the architect Paolo Brescia.
All of that fills a week. The 14.1 percent fills an order book. If the October move is what pulled the larger units back to Genoa, the number to check is not this year's attendance but whether the same figure holds in 2027, once the novelty of the date has worn off and the September shows have had a season to respond.
